I'm back! You thought I might've been dead, but HammsCorner is here for another season of college football action. With that said, let's get straight into the picks for the start of the 2024 College Football Season!
Friday, August 30th
Lehigh @ Army - Army -27.5 (-180)
Take the alternate spread on this game. I feel a little better about army covering 28 instead of 32, so I think it's worth it to buy the points in this case. Lehigh is a basketball school, it's gonna be hard to match the physicality of a service academy. Give me Army by 28!
I'm not a fan of any other games this Friday. There are some good games but I don't see a lot of value outside of maybe Duke covering? But they're in rebuild mode so I want to see them play a game first.
Saturday, August 31st
Penn State @ West Virginia - Penn State -6.5 (-138)
I've never understood why some say West Virginia is a hard place to play. Penn State plays in the second largest stadium in the country, they won't have problems going to West Virginia. This team will cover 7 against West Virginia.
Virginia Tech @ Vanderbilt - Virginia Tech -13.5 (-112)
Virginia Tech is a sneaky good team this year. Vanderbilt has improved slightly in recent years but VT will handle this game easily.
Towson @ Cincinnati - Cincinnati -30.5 (-141)
I didn't even know that Towson has a football program. Cincinnati is a good program and will dominate this game.
Old Dominion @ South Carolina - South Carolina -16.5 (-199)
Old Dominion was my team in CFB25 dynasty. My first game at South Carolina we lost 56-6. Take South Carolina.
Richmond @ Virginia - Virginia -19 (-110)
Virginia is playing an in state school for this one. But I think a middle tier ACC team can beat up on an FCS basketball school.
Notre Dame @ Texas A&M - Notre Dame ML (+130)
Texas A&M is used to falling short in big games. You can say the same about the Irish. Mike Elko almost pulled off the upset with Duke last year. But with a new team I think he falls just short once again. The Irish win this one in a close game.
Idaho @ Oregon - Oregon -44 (-110)
Idaho is bad. These potatoes get fried by the ducks.
Sunday, September 1st
LSU @ USC - LSU ML (-180)
The fighting Brian Kelley's vs Lincoln Riley. One thing Brian Kelley has done is be consistent in his career. He hasn't gotten over the hump of being one of the best 2-3 teams in the country consistently, but LSU will show up for this game./ I can't say the same about Lincoln Riley. He would be a great offensive coordinator, just not sure he's cutting it at HC. LSU by 3.
Monday, September 2nd
Boston College @ Florida State - U 52.5 (-158)
The problems FSU had last week are not gonna be fixed in 7 days. Boston College will likely follow the same game plan as Georgia Tech and run out the clock. So take the under in this game.
